Future Plans of Tata - JLR

Future Plans of Tata - JLR
Tata Motors plans to make a lot of enhancements in their design and engineering techniques to match the German companies. There are special plans to improvise the Tata Nano, Indica and Indigo variants with the help of JLR design research team and to ensure that it can be offered at the current price but with better safety features. Since the current demand for utility vehicles (UV) is higher, they will be doing intense research in the SUV range. Tata Safari Stormme is already a great success in the market. They will also be focussing on improvising the Tata Sumo as well as the Aria. For more information on the evolution of the Tata and JLR brand, you can look up the following links:

Electric Car Development
A lot of automotive companies today have been trying to make a niche in the market by coming up with electric cars that can be a great relief from the soaring petrol prices. Tata motors displayed one such electric car named the Tata Megapixel at the 82nd Geneva Auto Show. Some of the older models like Indica e-Vista electric version were also showcased in the 79th Geneva auto show. This car works on the concept of REEV (Range Extended Electric vehicle) with four motors on each wheel and a performance of 100km under battery only power. This car can be charged over an induction pad. They also have a collaboration with Dassault systems to make an electric car called eMO at 10 lakhs. Similarly, Jagaur has a concept car called the CX-75 priced at £200,000. The main constraints with electric cars is the cost of production, non-availability of charging points( not as common as finding a fuelling station) and low performance in long distance drives. Pictures of the Tata Megapixel are shown below.

Tata JLR News

Tata motors are listed in the BSE as well the NSE. The variations seen in the market indices were minor up until 2008, but started fluctuating post Tata JLR merger. Brand Image of Tata Motors and JLR

Brand Image of Tata Motors and JLR

The media looks at Tata motors as a brand that makes continuous improvements in its design and features. However, they still feel that a lot more can be done to get on par with global standards. The media also follows closely the stiff competition between Tata Motors and Mahindra motors when it comes to both design and revenues. Tata motors have also been greatly appreciated by the media for dedicated efforts towards making green cars that are low on CO2 emissions. Some of the notable awards won by them are Best Learning Organisations of Asia (2011-12), Golden Peacock Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance. The brand which started off as TELCO, was initially popular for their trucks and commercial vehicles. Today, they have made their presence felt in every kind of automotive manufacturing ranging from passenger vehicles, SUV’s, defence vehicles to luxury cars.

When the Jaguar and Land Rover came to India, the perception of the TATA cars changed a lot. The TATA cars began to be viewed as the quality utility cars for the middle class. While earlier the cars in India were only for the high class, with the coming of the international luxury brands, the value of the TATA cars went down. Its collaboration with the international luxury brands has increased the expectations of the public towards the brand design values and the quality of the car. The TATA Motors have worked to live up to the expectation while maintaining the low price range. To a certain extent we can see that they have succeeded, but at the same time we can see that the issues with the quality of the brand has been in the news on and of. The brand while trying hard to maintain the low pricing is somewhere compromising on the quality of the car. The change in the design values after the collaboration can be seen in TATA cars, but at the same time it has maintained the look of the car for the middle class not only through its design values but also through its prices. Jaguar Land Rover are on the other hand very much recognized as the luxury brand through its design values, color availability as well as the obvious one, the price range. After all the development, TATA motors is still one of the trusted brands for its quality for a utility vehicle and also one of the top three popular passenger vehicle brands in India due to its trusted name, quality and the price range. The TATA Trucks and such commercial utility vehicles are very popular among the users as they are very reliable and due to the government subsidies very economically priced.

Collaboration for International Car Shows

Collaboration for International Car Shows
Tata and JLR can now focus on making high end products that can be showcased at the international car shows and rallies. The concept cars that have been showcased at Geneva Auto Show in the past are Tata Pixel (electric car), Tata Megapixel and Tata Cliffrider. Some of the other motor shows where these companies have been showcasing their products are Bologna Motor Show, Barcelona Motor show, the Bursa motor show in Turkey, the GoodWood Revival Show in US. They can leverage the expertise of JLR R&D centres to come up with unique concept cars that can be displayed at these auto shows. These demonstrations will not just add to the brand value of TATA Motors -JLR but will also reflect their true collaborative spirit and show the world that the merger has indeed been a grand success.
